Retro or Modern?
Old school retro motorcycles have had a glorious past and still continue to rule the minds of people even today. The design aspects, paint schemes and the sheer emotional connect make them relevant even today. But the changing road conditions with faster and more reliable machines being launched everyday, are the old motorcycles still right choice is the prime question to be asked.

We at Jedi customs have always tried to explain our clients to have a clear perspective and priority management while using a retro motorcycle like a Royal Enfield bullet or a Yamaha Rx 100/135. By that what we mean is they have had their glorious past but they cant be your primary commuter today. You have to treat them like a collectible which needs care and love. A coffee shop ride or a leisure night ride on empty roads would just be ideal for these machines. But if you want to do daily commute or a real long ride beyond 500 kms at a stretch then you have to be that extra cautious.
On funnier note a popular mechanic friend of ours often quips his one liner whenever a client complains about his old motorcycle giving him trivial issues. He says you cant marry a supermodel and expect her to make hot rotis for you everyday. You cant have best of both worlds. Hence we ask our clients to have a clear perspective while buying or using these old machines. With the decreasing patience levels and attention span of the current Gen Z and Gen Alpha kids it is utmost necessary to have a stern reality check before buying that glazing old motorcycle on Instagram. These machines ask for certain personality traits in its users and we try to identify them before handing over our beloved creations.

The modern motorcycles are much faster and reliable thanks to the technological upgrades done over the years by engineers and designers. The fuel injection systems, better braking setups, softer and technically advanced suspension mechanisms and reliable electricals mean the modern motorcycles score heavily on technological aspects over the retro motorcycles. These bikes are meant to be ridden in hot and cold climates at equal ease and at much faster speeds. If you are doing daily commutes or even long tours then you have to have a primary modern motorcycle. The retro machines might fail you any moment and you will be stranded midway.

The old school motorcycles score heavily on the emotional front. Most of us bikers would have seen a fit policeman riding a Royal Enfield bullet during our childhood with aviators and prominent moustache. The aura that it created remains etched in our minds forever since and we all wanted to achieve that while we grew up. This is exactly what connects us with the retro machines and why we want to keep the legacy alive. That Dug-Dug has its own melody which can send people into a meditative trance and make you forget your sorrows.
So to summarize the whole point we would advice you to have a modern motorcycle of your choice and riding style to do your commutes and longer rides. But have a vintage retro motorcycle just to wake up every morning and start your day with a smile. Have a happy Sunday with a beer spent cleaning the bike. Its a different world and we all bikers must do justice to the bygone era bikes.
To build your own vintage motorcycle or get your grandfather’s motorcycle restored you can always contact us at Jedi Customs and we would be more than happy to work on your motorcycle with utmost love and passion. https://www.instagram.com/jedicustoms/
